Frequently Asked Questions:

What type of accommodation do we use?
The hotels we use are a mixture of 3 & 4* We have used them many times so can vouch for their cleanliness.

What is the climate in October ?
Temperatures are similar to the NZ spring so no real contrasts. Apart from the tropical areas Iguazu, Rio & The Amazon where the temperatures will be warmer.

Is the Amazon option worth while?
The jungle is like another world and our accommodation is luxurious, each bungalow holds 2 people with a/con and a good size pool to relax after the jungle walk. The meals are all buffet and are included in the cost.

Is the Arequipa option worth while?
Arequipa lies in a beautiful valley at the foot of El Misti volcano. Chivay-Colca Canyon is said to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, this is where you will see the giant Condor fly. Unspoiled picturesqe.

Do the high altitudes create any health problems?
In 17 years I have only had to send two people to sea level (out of more than 200 people). After we arrive in La Paz I always suggest you rest to acclimatise to the altitude.
However there are rooms at the airport where a doctor and oxygen are available if needed. Oxygen is available in our hotels also your doctor can prescribe tablets for the altitude. After leaving La Paz we descend to lower altitudes.

What level of fitness is required?
The tour is not at all strenuous, possibly the longest walking day will be in Machupichu even this is taken at a leisurely pace.

How many meals are included?
All breakfasts are included (mostly buffet). Eating out is so reasonable (Approx. NZ$10/15) throughout South America. Most people find that dinner is an experience as we go to many different restaurants (I have tried them all many times).

What about tipping?
I will collect money at the beginning of the tour for the tips so you can forget this.

Can I speak with someone who has been on the tour?
If you would like to speak with someone about the tour I can give you names of people who have travelled with us.
